Pastel Perfection

As many of you already know, pastel hair coloring has been the newest CRAZE in the fashion world. From celebrities such as Katy Perry, Lady GaGa, Rachel McAdams and Kate Bosworth to countless runway models, this hairstyle is threaded throughout the hair of some famous fashionistas.
Earlier today as I was on Twitter I spotted a post about coloring your hair with chalk and I was instantly interested! After clicking the link I saw that Lauren Conrad recently uploaded a picture to Instagram of her hair in a "Cotton Candy Bun." What she did was twist her hair into a cute top knot and then coated it with some pastel coloring with a light pink soft chalk. The concept is AMAZING and I am in love.

The thought of being able to add some color to your hair and then wash it out that night is IDEAL for me. I love the pastel hair trend but I don't know if I'd be able to deal with it every single day. With chalked hair just imagine how adorable hot pink and red tips would be for Valentines day, or multicolored hair with a black dress for a fun night out! Perfect?...I think so. I am definitely trying this trend this week...like probably tomorrow.

I will be sure to upload the results of my hair experiment for ya'll to see! Check out this link to The Beauty Department to find out how to do this fabulous style on your own locks! Stay tuned for a picture of my version later this week...

Take Me Away...

I know that I recently told ya'll that I'm addicted to Tumblr...but I SERIOUSLY am. I came across a Tumblr called Classy In The City that I could probably look at for days and days and days and never get tired of it. It has the most amazing pictures and they transport me into a romantic fantasy land whenever I look at them. Literally, my heart aches I want to be living inside these photographs so bad. There are countless shots that make me wish to either be with my boyfriend in Paris, shopping the streets of NYC on a snowy day, writing a fashion column in a busy Starbucks or perusing the sights that Europe offers its visitors. Adventures such as these, and plenty of others, are ones that I'm dying to partake on once I'm out of college and making a little money. (SIGH) Not only does this Tumblr transport me to a new world with one click of a button, it also provides me with some great fashion inspiration! So if your mind needs a break or if you want something fun and inventive to wear, make sure you check out...

INSPIRATION & Lindy Lately

(get it?? like Chelsea Lately? Mmkay...)
TODAYS INSPIRATION
As you can see, one trend that I am so BEYOND obsessed with this year is the "I'm lazy and casual, yet I just happen to look gorgeous right now" look. It's so effortlessly perfect and I wish I could wear it everyday... But I can't and I don't have enough stuff in my wardrobe to pull that off (sigh) oh well! A girl can dream right? Anywho, I bought some new eye makeup recently that is a mix of golds, whites and browns and I have been using it every single day this week (worn with my attempt of the casual-yet-hot look). It's very simple and I think it's ideal for winter weather. The other day I combined it with some foresty greens and I loved the way it turned out...
what do you think? I thought it looked pretty! I've started to do more eyeshadow around the outer corners of my eyes and I really like that style. It's like a very subtle understated smokey eye and it's perfect for people like me who only like pictures of the side of their face (haha- I know I'm weird.) I also bought some new shades from Target and I'm super excited to wear them. I had an old pair that had a Ray-Ban animal print frame but one of the lenses popped out. Sadness. ( It was like four months ago) So I desperately needed a new pair. Only 12 bucks? I'll take em! They mix browns and blacks and kind of have a tortoise shell plaid look so I know I can wear them with anything in my wardrobe.
Another fun thing I decided to do this week is copy some pictures of fashion sketches onto poster board and frame them for a blank wall in my room. Although this is an extremely daunting task that is going to take weeks, and my hand feels like it's going to fall off from coloring with my new colored pencils for hours on end, I think it'll be worth it when I get to the finished product! The original sketches are done by two AMAZING artists, Hayden Williams and Inslee Haynes, so make sure you check out their sites if you're looking for a fun and fashionable sketch to hang up in your room! Here are the four pictures I'm going to recreate...
Gorgeous right? I'll be sure to upload the pictures that I draw when I am finished. I am not a perfect artist in any sense of the word, but I think the pictures will turn out as somewhat accurate not as dainty and perfect versions so that's just going to have to do! What have YOU been up to lately??

pretty.

Tonight after I hopped out of the shower, wiped off my fogged up mirror and began the mundane routine of getting ready for bed, a thought popped into my head. And no, I don't usually think of random questions like this haha. I'm unsure of what came over me, but here goes nothin...

"Who came up with & what is the definition of pretty?"
After moments of quizzical faces made in my mirror and thought at why I was thinking such a unpremeditated thing, I realized that the reason this thought came to mind was because of my twin. (She's great, you can read her blog here) Just before I showered I had been iChatting with her and I kept thinking about how pretty she looked. And let me assure you, just because she is my twin doesn't mean I am sitting here writing a post about how gorgeous I am haha. Those comments are always so strange to me. In my mind we definitely look similar, but we aren't "identical" so much that when I'm talking about her it's as if I'm talking about myself...that's just weird.
But anywho, aside from how pretty I know she is on the inside, she is just as pretty on the outside. Long perfectly blonde hair, a bright smile, porcelain skin and blue eyes; all qualities that others would die to have. But who came up with that standard, I wondered? Who came up with the qualities that other girls want so badly to possess? Who was the person to say...

"hey. This girl right here...she is pretty." OR "That body type and that hair color is ugly."

Who were they to have the right to do that? As far as I know (and I'd like to think I'm pretty well studied) the Bible doesn't mention the definition of pretty. And if I remember correctly, after 18 plus years of history classes, there isn't a famous historian who wrote down the definition of pretty for the first time in Webster or some other famous dictionary (at least not someone that I took notes on or payed attention to in class.) The definition of pretty in our society has been so skewed by the media, what others think or desire, and industries such as the fashion world that people are actually getting more bad out of it than good. Young girls with eating disorders or students with low self-esteem aren't gaining from people constantly cutting others down who aren't "up to par" with the latest standards of "what's hot".
Shouldn't everyone focus on what's on the inside? To me, the definition of pretty shouldn't solely be a 5'9 frame, mile long legs, a curvy figure and a perfect face. Pretty should be treating others like you want to be treated. Pretty should be setting moral examples for your peers and living your life in the best way possible. Someone who does THAT emulates the definition of someone who is pretty. And while some people (like my sister) may be blessed with an amazing personality and a pretty face, the thing that stands out shouldn't be the things you see when you look at them. What should stand out is who they are as a person.

So as I step down off of my momentary soap box, I leave you with your very own question to think about for the night:
"What is YOUR definition of pretty?"

and if it's a surface answer, then just remember...

Beauty isn't only skin deep.

Stylish & Sick

BLEH. I would get sick during the first week of classes. I feel AWFUL. Seriously, you do not want whatever I am coming down with. My whole body aches, my throat hurts and all I feel like doing is sitting around in layers upon layers of warm clothes drinking coffee and napping.
So I apologize in advance if there are not many posts this week/weekend, but what I am going to leave you with tonight is some boot inspiration. Yes, I know...I already have over 10 pairs, but I'm addicted and I REALLY want some new black boots. Like studded or combat or heeled...something along those lines. I love all the ones that I have but I just want something new and fresh. What do you think of these??

They're amazing right? I am going to look for some tomorrow..and I'm crossing my fingers that I get better VERY soon so I can wear them ASAP! What fashionable things have you been wearing during your first week back?? Tweet a picture to @fashionppt and I'll upload it right here on this post! Hoping ya'll are staying healthy, dry and warm...

Long Time Comin'

Wow... I haven't blogged since Christmas! WHAT. I apologize for the lack of posts...but it was a long, relaxing break and I enjoyed every minute of it. I spent time with my amazing family, boyfriend and friends and I celebrated all that God has blessed me with! My face was stuffed with delicious food, my pajamas stayed on for hours on end and my wallet became a little too empty after days spent shopping and drinking Starbucks. All in all, it was a perfect break!
My closet is now filled with plenty of stylish items that I am DYING to wear to class (slash kind of not cus I am one of those weird girls who likes to save all my new clothes for weeks and weeks just being excited that I have something I haven't worn yet hanging in my closet). I had previously picked out a sheer blouse that I knew I wanted to wear this morning, but when I looked out the window to figure out what to do with my hair I realized that spending forever straightening my lion mane would not have been worth it. Want to know why? Well, it's because of this thing called FRIZZ. Yep, frizz... and I have way too much of it. Misty rain was coming down in sheets and my hair wouldn't have lasted two seconds of my walk to class. After quick thinking I decided to do a new style that I was itching to try...a PONYTAIL MOHAWK! I am in love with how it turned out. The double ponytail may seem a little childish to some, but pair it with a big poof and slicked back sides and you will be looking rocker chic! What do you think??
I love it and I am definitely going to be sporting another one sometime soon! It's very girly, flirty and fun and makes my hair look extra long (which I never turn down)! Another thing that I was excited about today was beginning second semester with CollegeFashionista! My new bio went live this morning and I am so thrilled to see what this semester holds. One thing that I am really looking forward to is writing posts about male AND female students with a post each Monday called Style Advice Of The Week. It was very challenging finding solely stylish men around ECU, but being a fashion major I know I am bound to find more than one girl to take a snap shot of for my new column, woohoo! So make sure you check out my updated CF biography and stay tuned for more posts coming up here on PPT! Hope you all had a magnificent Monday!...
